An Open Letter to Mr. Akshay Kumar from my friend Sweety Potti

Dear Akshay Kumar Sir, I saw your video Sir in which you were saying women should learn self-defense. Yes Sir! I agree with you cent percent! Totally in agreement with you Sir! We keep our house doors locked, put our money in the bank and jewellery in the locker to safeguard it from thieves, in […]

SHIMLA – A Rendezvous with a Glorious Past

Hidden among the pine trees & standing tall was a large house with yellow pillars and more windows than I had ever seen on any house; kind of like a Tardis in the time-capsule that Shimla is.
At first glance it would be hard for anyone to imagine any past glory associated with this house at all. Did Mahatma Gandhi really stay here during his Shimla visits? Was this where he, along with other Indian leaders, took important decisions on India’s freedom movement?

I just had to go inside and find out.

War with Trolls – a short story for children that adults can enjoy too

Next morning Pernille’s father woke her up anxiously.

“Pernille! Pernille! Wake up!”

Her brother Axel was nowhere to be found. The whole house had been turned upside down and the whole neighbourhood had been alerted. If you want him, come and get him.”

Of Indian Gods and Goddesses

I WROTE THIS LAST YEAR BUT IT’S THE SAME STORY EVERY YEAR. The festival of Navratri just went by and this year too I couldn’t help but wonder at the irony that accompanies the idol of the Goddess. I watched the joyous celebrations, fervent worshiping, shopping and the crowds thronging at the Durga Puja pandals […]

By far the worst 5 minutes of my life! (Read esp.if you have pets)

A dog may be a good learner but a cat is a better teacher. And I learnt my lessons today.

The most obvious one is to not leave pets alone with strings and other potentially threatening ‘toys’. But more importantly don’t ignore life and put if off until tomorrow. Just leave the past behind and move on and take each day as it comes. Be calm, happy and positive. Be grateful every day. Cats get nine lives but we humans don’t.

I met him on my recent trip to Shimla and it immediately struck me that he looked different from the dogs I see in the plains – he was bigger in size and had longer hair. So I went up to him while he was basking in the sunlit spot right in the middle of […]
